Hoof and vet days
Our farriers and vets come to the livestock markets on Sundays after the Liturgy. Trimming, shoeing and worming are free for horses that work (carts, herding, ploughing). For riding and race horses we ask 150 som for trimming and 400 som for four shoes, which pays for the iron and the nails. Bring the horse's passport if it has one. We do not issue export or studbook papers: for those, go to the Talas Veterinary Research Center.

Winter advice
- A horse needs about 8-10 kg of hay a day in winter, more in hard frost. Hay keeps a horse warmer than grain.
- Break the ice on the water twice a day. A horse that cannot drink will not eat.
- Take the shoes off a horse that will stand in the yard all winter, or ask for winter studs if it must work on ice.
- Old horses with bad teeth cannot chew long hay: soak chopped lucerne or bran. Ask us about teeth before the frost.
