«Luke, the beloved physician»
The St. Luka Community Health Mission is a charity of the Syro-Iradi Catholic Church, founded in Iyık Janyl in 1996 and registered as an association. Our doctors, nurses and volunteers go where health care is far away: to villages in the hills, to people who are ashamed to come to a clinic, to families who cannot pay. We help everyone, whatever their faith.
Where we work
- Mobile clinics in the villages of the Fergana rim and the Naryn valley, and visits to village health posts, with the UNMI vaccination rounds.
- Tash-Kömür centre: confidential help for people who use drugs and for their families.
- Nurzhan: outreach in the industrial districts.
- Research: with Talas State University, the 2021 household survey on how marriages begin.
In 2020 and 2021, together with the Sisters of the Cross, we lost eleven colleagues to the epidemic. We remember them at the Liturgy on the feast of St. Luke, 18 October.
